How to send a connection request

How to send a connection request

As a mentor/coach, you can reach out to learners directly to initiate a mentoring or coaching relationship. Here's how.

Browsing and Filtering Learners

  1. From the navigation bar, click Journey > Search Learners.

  2. You will see a list of learners who are registered in the same programme(s) as you.
  3. Click View Profile to learn more about a learner before reaching out.

💡 Not sure if a learner is the right fit? You can message them first before sending a connection request. Click Send a Message on their profile to start a conversation.

Sending a Connection Request

  1. On the learner's profile, click Request to Connect.

  2. In the pop-up, select the relevant programme you'd like to connect under.
  3. Click Request to submit.

🔁 What Each Status Means
  • Active – You’re successfully connected with the mentor/coach under one or more programmes.

  • Pending – Your connection request is still awaiting mentor/coach approval.

  • Rejected – Your request to connect was declined under one or more programmes.

Notesℹ️ You may still see the Request to Connect button even if you’re already connected — this is because connections are programme-specific, and you can send connection requests to the same learner for other programmes.

Once sent, the connection status will appear as Pending under Journey > Manage My Connections (Read more: How to manage existing connections article).

If you change your mind, click the gear icon next to the connection and select Cancel to withdraw the request.

What the Learner Will See

Once you send a request, the learner will receive a Wall Feed notification and an email informing them that you have sent a connection request under the specified programme.

After Sending a Request

While waiting for the learner to accept, you can:

  • Send them a message via the Messages tab to introduce yourself, or click on Send a Message within the Learner's profile

  • Review their profile to familiarise yourself with their background and goals
  • Prepare a set of milestones or session topics you'd like to work through once connected
Alert
In some cases, an admin may create a connection on your behalf. These connections are immediately Active and do not require acceptance from either party — you will simply find the connection already in place under Manage My Connections.

Troubleshooting

1. Error: "One of the users is not eligible"

This means either you or the learner is not eligible to connect under the selected programme. Check that:

  • The learner is registered and approved for the programme
  • Your own registration for the programme has been approved

2. Programme not appearing in the connection pop-up

This usually means you are not registered in the programme, or your registration is still pending. If you are approved and the programme still doesn't appear, it may not be active yet — only active programmes will show as options. Contact your programme administrator if the issue persists.
